I’m pleased to announce that Life’s A Game will be at the 17th MCM Expo!
I will be representing the wonderful people at Wired Radio, and will be covering the event with the amazing people at PlusXP and GamingLives :D
What’s the MCM Expo, you ask? Well, it’s England’s biggest entertainment expo for Anime, Movies and Videogames, and runs twice a year at the ExCel centre in London. It’s one of THE places to go, and is considered one of the UK’s top entertainment events. This MCM Expo is the 17th one, and runs on the 29th and 30th May.
It’s also an opportunity to come face to face with film stars and TV Personalities, go hands on with the Videogames on display, check out some Anime and Manga, see previews of upcoming movies, and cosplay your heart out (if you’re into that sort of thing).
On the Comics side, while I don’t know too much about what’ll be there, I do know that the creator of the Comic ‘Geek Girl’, Sam Johnson will be on the Comics Creators Guild Stand, and will be available to sign copies of Geek-Girl #0, posters, and a special MCM Expo Collector’s Edition of Geek-Girl #0 that comes with a numbered Geek-Girl Manga Print limited to 25 copies on the Saturday, only.
Big Warhammer fan? Well, the first ever full-length animated feature of Warhammer 40k “Ultramarines” is going to be on show, too. It’s planned to be a tense sci-fi action movie set in the 40k universe, employing state of the art facial capture technology and CGI animation to help the film really come to life. It’ll also involve a voice cast that includes the likes of Terence Stamp, John Hurt and Sean Pertwee. The screenwriter Dan Abnett, director Martyn Pick and producers David Kerney and Bob Thompson will all be on a panel discussing the making of the movie and sharing some behind-the-scenes info.
There’ll also be a plethora of stars at the Expo, including, but probably not limited to:
-Ron D Moore – Executive producer on Caprica, also known for his work on Battlestar Galactica, Carnivale, Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. He’ll be joined by Esai Morales, the show’s star, who has also appeared in 24, Jericho, NYPD Blue and Vanished.
-Alaina Huffman – Tamara Johansen in Stargate Universe. Alaina is also well-known to sci-fi fans for her role as Dunah Lance, The Black Canary, in Smallville. Alongside Alaina will be Stargate Universe co-star, Jamil Walker Smith. Jamil plays Ronald Greer on SGU and has also appeared in Bones, Cold Case & Medium.
-Show creators Ryan Copple and Kaleena Kiff and actors Christine Chantelain (Riese) and Sharon Taylor (Amara) from steampunk epic Riese will be hosting a panel.
-David DeLuise, who plays Jerry Russo in popular Disney Channel series ‘Wizards of Waverly Place’, will be signing autographs for his young fans free of charge.
-Kathy Najimy, who provides the voice of “’Peggy Hill’ on the Emmy-award winning cartoon King of the Hill and played Sister Mary Patrick in Sister Act 1 & 2.
-Kyle Hebert – leading anime and videogame voice artist, most recently lent his voice to Ryu (Street Fighter IV), Kamina (Gurren Lagann), Kiba (Naruto), Vato (Full Metal Alchemist) and Aizen (Bleach).
On the videogame side, games on display include Rising Star’s No More Heroes 2 (I shotgunned the coverage for that for PlusXP) and Samurai Shodown: Sen. Activision will also have a presence at the event, with their new racing game Blur and Transformers: War of the Cybertron available to play on the show floor. There’ll also be multiplayer competitions for Blur so everyone can get their boy racer on.
There’ll also be a full-sized Warthog Vehicle from the Halo Series. The PlusXP team currently has no plans to hijack the vehicle that we’re willing to share with you.
Other publishers with a presence will be Tecmo Koei (for whom PlusXP’s Mark Boss does video podcasts for), PQube and Nintendo. Konami will also be there, holding a UK Yu-Gi-Oh! National championship and the Yu-Gi-Oh! DS National Championship, with a grand event that’ll hold 364 fans and a knock out tournament until someone is crowned the grand champion. The Winner of the DS championship will then be entered into the DS World Finals. If you didn’t get enough Yu-Gi-Oh! from that, there’s also demos of the games about, and screenings of the cartoons and movies abound.
Even more card based gaming is abound with Wizards of the Coast showing off “Magic The Gathering – Duels of the Planeswalkers”. It’ll be available on PC later this year, but the game will be playable on the Xbox LIVE Arcade at the show to give people a taste of what’s to come. There’ll also be a free demo of the Magic: The Gathering Trading Card Game, with free decks of cards and exclusive promo cards being given out while stocks last.
That’s not all! The MCM Expo is attempting to set a new Guinness World Record for the largest Handheld Game Console Party on the 29th. The record stipulates that everyone involved must be playing a game for the whole 10 minutes the attempt is underway, and so far, over a thousand people have registered for the attempt, which if all those people show up, means that it’ll eclipse the previous record of 381. Take THAT, Australia!
Edit: Ubisoft will also be on the scene to advertise Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands. The first 5,000 attendees of the show will receive exclusive Prince of Persia goodies. Additionally, Yuri Lowenthal, the voice of the Prince will also be at the show signing posters and meeting fans.
Tecmo Koei, as well as showcasing Quantum Theory, will also be selling a highly collectable limited edition figurine of Kasumi from Dead or Alive: Paradise. Turtle Entertainment will be running professional gaming tournaments as part of the Electronic Sports League’s Pro Series for the UK. Nintendo will also be offering consumers the chance to win one of five DSi XLs and more prizes from other exhibitors.
According to MCM, the list of games that will be there are:
